Ok, take a deep breath. Here’s what I know so far.
John doesn’t remember anything between the first time they took off that night, and when he woke up to being pinned in the plane.
I got a call at 7am on Sunday saying that they had been in a plane crash, and another call at 7:30am saying that John was OK. We drove down to Tulsa that day at 10am, and saw him after his first surgery at St. John’s Medical Center. He was awake, very responsive, and had his wits and his spirits about him. Granted, he was exhausted, so he went to sleep not too long after recieving the Annointing of the Sick.
I drove Dan and my sisters back to Wichita that night for 7pm mass.
Here’s what I know about John:
He has a spiral fracture to his right tibia (it was broken all the way through, and broken in multiple places). After his final leg surgery on Tuesday, he was able to walk 3 steps with a walker. He now has a 10″ titanium plate, 3 leg screws, and 7 other fasteners in his leg. His leg drain has been removed. From an orthopedic standpoint, he could go home Thursday. However, due to his low hemoglobin count, that is looking like a long shot.
The doctor has said his fracture is very healable, and he should be able to do any running etc. in about 6-12 months.
He has his neck brace off, and is talking and eating well. His jaw is not technically fractured or dislocated, so he should be able have that worked on in Wichita. It has been confirmed that there was no injury to his arms or his left foot, which was previously quite swollen.
Regarding Ryan:
He is having surgery on his right thumb today at 12pm. His thumb had a fracture and many lacerations.
Sorry I don’t have more on Ryan.
Both have been able to visit with each other. They have also had many visitors from the Carroll community, and have enjoyed it immensely. They were even visited my Bishop Gerber…. TWICE!
I will continue to keep you guys informed whenever I hear anything.
